Refund, Cancellation & Warranty Policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026 · Built on the Consumer Protection Act (CPA) 68 of 2008.
1. Statutory Warranty under the CPA (Section 56)
Under Section 56 of the South African Consumer Protection Act, all new goods supplied by Quickstart Computers come with an implied warranty of quality for a period of at least 6 months.
If hardware fails to meet quality standards or exhibits a genuine manufacturer defect within 6 months of purchase (not caused by user abuse, surge, or liquid damage), you are legally entitled to request that we repair the defect, replace the item with an equivalent new component, or receive a full refund of the price paid for that component.
2. Quickstart 2-Year System Bench Warranty
In addition to statutory protections, custom desktop builds carry our comprehensive 2-Year Bench Warranty:
- Free Bench Diagnostics: If your system develops a fault within 24 months, we diagnose it on our test bench free of labour charges.
- Distributor RMA Handling: When a component requires manufacturer warranty return (most components carry 2 to 3 years distributor warranty), we manage the return, testing, and replacement directly with official South African distributors.
- Exclusions: Warranty does not cover faults arising from Eskom power surges or lightning strikes (surge protection strongly recommended), cryptocurrency mining, unauthorized overclocking, liquid damage, or accidental drops.
3. 7-Day Cooling-Off Period (ECTA Section 44)
For non-custom retail hardware (such as unopened accessories, monitors, cables, and peripherals) purchased online, you are entitled under Section 44 of ECTA to cancel the transaction within 7 days of receiving the goods.
Goods must be returned in their original, unopened packaging with all accessories intact. The customer is responsible for the direct cost of return courier shipping. Refunds are processed within 10 business days of inspection.
4. Custom Build Cancellations & Deposits
Custom computers are built to your specific component preferences. Under Section 42 of ECTA, the 7-day cooling-off right does not automatically apply to goods made or customized to the consumer’s specifications once assembly has commenced.
- Before parts are ordered: Full 100% refund of deposit upon written cancellation request.
- After parts have arrived from distributors: If you cancel before assembly, a reasonable distributor restocking fee (typically 10%–15% charged by suppliers) may be deducted from the refund.
- After assembly and testing: Assembly and stress-testing labour fees cannot be refunded once completed.
